Heirloom — A Framed, Centred Marriage Biodata Built Around One Portrait

Heirloom is built around symmetry: a gold frame, a centred portrait at the top, and dotted rules separating sections down the page. It borrows from the printed matrimonial documents families have kept for decades, which is where the name comes from.

Of everything here, this is the design that most rewards being printed rather than only shared as a link.

I design software for a living and make pottery badly on weekends. I read more than I watch, I am the person friends call when a spreadsheet stops making sense, and I would rather host six people for dinner than go to a party of sixty.

Best for

  • Biodata that will be printed and carried to a meeting
  • Families who keep a physical copy alongside the digital one
  • Profiles with a good portrait photograph and complete cultural details
  • Anyone who wants a ceremonial format that still feels composed rather than crowded

Why symmetry changes how it reads

Centred layouts are unforgiving of uneven content: one very long field beside several short ones breaks the balance immediately. This design handles that by giving each section its own bounded block, so a long family description does not drag the whole page off centre.

What to write when you use it

Keep field values to a similar length where you reasonably can — it is the one design here where that visibly helps. Complete the horoscope block, since the framed layout leaves an obvious gap without it. And use a proper portrait rather than a casual photograph; the frame draws the eye straight to it.

Where it is the wrong choice

If you have no photograph you want to use, the centred frame will look empty at the top. Modern Minimal or Zen Minimal handles an absent photo far better.

Try it with your own details
